Helpful Information

Getting high-quality photos of your catch helps us create the most accurate and lifelike replica possible. Follow these simple tips to ensure your pictures capture every important detail—from color and markings to shape and proportions.

  • Take photos out of direct sunlight so not to be overexposed.
  • Pictures taken in shade are best. This allows the camera to capture the deep color highlights.
  • Be careful of bright jackets and raincoats reflecting color onto the fish.
  • The more photos the better.
  • Videos are good because we can stop the video to see different angles and patterns of the fish.
  • It’s important to take pictures of special features like scars, cut fins, and eye photos for proper color match.
  • Eye color may change during morphology (annual breeding cycle).

If you don’t have the best photos, don’t be discouraged in reaching out to us. As long as we know what time of year the fish was caught, we can do a good matchup that will be as close as possible to your fish. We have several reference photos on hand.

How To Measure Your Fish

The castings are ordered from the indentation of the tailfin to the furthest head length.

Curvatures may reduce the visual size of the fish. This should be taken into consideration when ordering a fish. You may want to add an inch or two so that it looks to be the same size as you measured.

When the head is facing away from the wall, that is considered the dominant direction. So the way it curves determines the way it will hang on the wall.
