About
At Fin-Effect, every fish mount is more than a replica: it’s a memory brought back to life. Although new to the professional taxidermy industry, we bring decades of artistic experience, precision craftsmanship, and a lifelong passion for fishing to every piece we create.
Our owner Dan Wood’s background in the visual arts started early. As a young artist, he received the Congressional Art Award, which gave him the honor of having one of his airbrush paintings displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.. Over the years, he studied several art mediums, building a strong foundation in color theory, texture, and lifelike detail—all of which now define the Fin-Effect approach to fish replica taxidermy.
Before founding Fin-Effect, he spent many years working in the trades as a plumber and pipefitter, where precision and attention to detail were essential. That same dedication to accuracy and craftsmanship now goes into every fish mount produced. After earning his certificate in taxidermy, he focused on combining his artistic roots, technical skills, and passion for angling to create realistic, museum-quality fish replicas. Each piece is hand-painted and custom finished to reflect the natural colors and unique details of the catch—helping families relive those moments on the water every time they see their fish.
As an avid fly fisherman since the age of 13, I understand the emotion behind every trophy fish. I’d love to hear your story, see your photos, and work with you to create a lifelike replica that preserves your memory for years to come.
